Overview

Allied Telesis IE340 Series are a high-performing and feature-rich choice for today's networks. Network management

Allied Telesis Autonomous Management Framework™ (AMF) meets the increasing management requirements of today's modern converged networks, by automating many everyday tasks such as configuration management. AMF's powerful features allow an entire network to be easily managed as a single virtual device.

Vista Manager™ EX is an intuitive visualization tool that complements the power of AMF. It allows users to monitor the network and quickly identify issues before they become major problems.

Securing the network edge

Ensuring data protection means controlling network access. Protocols such as IEEE 802.1X port-based authentication guarantee that only known users are connected to the network.

Unknown users who physically connect can be segregated into a pre-determined part of the network. This offers guests Internet access, while ensuring the integrity of private data.

Gigabit and Fast Ethernet

The IE340 Series SFP ports support both Gigabit and Fast Ethernet Small Form-Factor Pluggables (SFPs). This makes the IE340 Series ideal for environments where Gigabit fiber switches will be phased in over time, and allows for connectivity to the legacy 100FX hardware until it is upgraded to Gigabit Ethernet. Support for both speeds of SFP allows organizations to stay within budget as they migrate to faster technologies.

Network resiliency

The IE340 Series supports highly stable and reliable ICT network switching, with recovery times down to 50ms. The IE340 can be customized with the most appropriate mechanism and protocol to prevent network connection failure. Choices include Allied Telesis Ethernet Protection Switched Ring (EPSRing™), and the standards-based ITU-T G.8032.

Configurable PoE power budget and dynamic power allocation

On PoE-sourcing IE340 switches, the overall power budget can be configured to establish a close relationship between the power sourcing feature and the real capabilities of the external Power Supply Unit (PSU). PoE power is allocated dynamically, based on the current usage of each powered device.

Cybersecurity
The x330 Series acting as AMF members are compatible with our AMF-Security solution, which enables a self-defending network. The AMF-Sec controller responds immediately to any internal malware threats by instructing the x330 Series to isolate the affected part of the network, and quarantine the suspect device. Vista Manager EX alerts networks administrators of threats that have been dealt with.
Network protection
Advanced storm protection features include bandwidth limiting, policy-based storm protection and packet storm protection.
Network storms are often caused by cabling errors that result in a network loop. The x330 Series provide features to detect loops as soon as they are created. Loop detection and thrash limiting take immediate action to prevent network storms.
Secure
Network security is guaranteed, with powerful control over network traffic types, secure management options, and other multi-layered security features built right in.
Network Access Control (NAC) gives unprecedented control over user access to the network, in order to mitigate threats to network infrastructure.

Reliable

The SwitchBlade x908 was designed with reliability in mind. With dual power supplies, fan modules and a comprehensive range of expansion modules (XEMs) - all hot-swappable - the SwitchBlade x908 can be maintained and reconfigured when necessary without affecting network uptime.

The SwitchBlade x908 switch operates with one PSU, and installing a second PSU provides ultimate redundancy. Dual internal PSUs eliminate the need for an external Redundant Power Supply (RPS), thus saving valuable rack space. Builtinredundancy guarantees uninterrupted delivery of essential services.

The SwitchBlade x908 also features frontto-back cooling, making it ideal for data center applications.

Powerful network management

The Allied Telesis Autonomous Management Framework (AMF) meets the increased management requirements of modern converged networks, automating many everyday tasks including configuration management. AMF has powerful centralized management features that manage a complete network as a single virtual device. The network can be expanded with plug-and-play simplicity, and network node recovery is fully zero-touch.

AMF secure mode increases network security with management traffic encryption, authorization, and monitoring. AMF Guestnode allows third party devices, such as IP phones and security cameras, to be part of an AMF network.

Resilient

High availability features such as VCStack™ (Virtual Chassis Stacking) and EPSRing™ (Ethernet Protection Switched Rings) ensure traffic flow continues even during unscheduled outages.

VCStack provides excellent resiliency by creating a single "virtual chassis" from two SwitchBlade x908 physical devices, using dedicated high speed stacking links. VCStack provides a highly available system where network resources are spread out across stacked units, reducing the impact should one of the stacked units fail. Switch ports may be aggregated on different units, for excellent high availability. VCStack delivers a resilient solution at a fraction of the cost of a full chassis-based system, and the stack may be managed as a single network node, greatly simplifying management tasks.

High Performing

The SwitchBlade x908 features fully non-blocking switching on all ports, to facilitate low latency, wirespeed IPv4 and IPv6 Layer 2 switching and Layer 3 routing. This is ideal for high-end server deployments. When combined with a large Layer 3 route table, it is ideal for aggregating gigabit connections.

MEF Certified

The SwitchBlade x908 has been certified by the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) Certification program, which tests products for conformance to the strict requirements of Carrier Ethernet. Specifically, the SwitchBlade x908 is certified for compliance to MEF 9 and MEF 14 Ethernet Services tests.
