Veracity HIGHWIRE Powerstar Quad - 4 x Network (RJ-45) - 1640.42 ft Extended Range
Connect up to four IP cameras with HIGHWIRE Powerstar Quad over an existing coax cable
Learn More
HIGHWIRE Powerstar Quad uses existing coax cabling as a reliable Ethernet network connection and is very easy to use and fast to install.
Ethernet Over Coax
HIGHWIRE Powerstar Quad's unique ultra low-power design and efficient power delivery enables long range Ethernet over coax. It works even over the lowest grade cable, such as the highresistance, copper-clad steel (CCS) types found in many legacy installations. This means that legacy coax upgrades can be planned with confidence, while a quick check of the SafeView™ power level display reaffirms that the device connections will continue to be reliable, whatever the cable used.
For predictable network operation with no restrictions, HIGHWIRE technology delivers a full 200Mbit/s of bandwidth at 300m (1000 ft) of RG-59 or 500m (1600 ft) of RG-11 coax. For full information on POE-over-Coax™ distances achievable, please refer to the Range Table in the HIGHWIRE Powerstar datasheet or on the Veracity website. For POE power budget and power supply options, see the POE Power Budget Table opposite.
HIGHWIRE Powerstar QUAD
The QUAD variant of HIGHWIRE is designed for the camera end of the coax and, with an integrated four-port POE switch, enables connection of up to four IP cameras over a single coax. With no need to configure IP addresses, set DIP switches, or make awkward measurements and calculations, installing HIGHWIRE Powerstar QUAD is simple. The Base end of the coax is driven by single-channel, 4-channel or 8-channel HIGHWIRE Powerstar Base unit. The QUAD unit can be powered either by POE over coax, delivering a maximum total POE power budget of 25 watts, or by one of the optional local PSUs, delivering 40 or 78 watts. HIGHWIRE Powerstar Quad features Veracity's unique SafeView™ display, to provide IP camera installers with an instant and very easy-to-understand confirmation of correct operation from either end of the cable.
HIGHWIRE Powerstar Quad allows one analogue camera to be replaced with four IP cameras
POE over Coax or Local Power
In the simplest implementation (shown below left) the BASE unit receives power from a standard POE switch or Veracity's 57V DC PSU and transmits POE over the coax. The QUAD unit receives this power and delivers up to 25 watts shared between up to four IP cameras. No external power cabling is required, and all detection and setup occurs automatically. For higher POE power budgets, an optional Veracity 57V DC PSU may be used to power the QUAD locally at the camera end (shown below right) delivering 40 watts or 78 watts depending on PSU model. Veracity HIGHWIRE Powerstar Base 8 LINKLOCK Eight Channel Unit With LINKLOCK - 1 x Network (RJ-45) - 1640.42 ft Extended Range
LINKLOCK™ technology provides secure tamper-proof network connections over coax cable
LINKLOCK options are available in Veracity's high performance HIGHWIRE Powerstar Base 4 and Base 8 Ethernet and POE over coax devices.
- Tamper-proof Ethernet and POE over coax
- 8 tamper-proof channels per Base unit
- Tampering or interference with cabling shuts down channel
- Relay contact alarm output on tamper, with reset pins
- 32 POE or POE Plus channels in 1U with four Base units
- Automatic configuration for simple installation
- Full duplex 100Base-TX performance on each coax
LINKLOCK™ detects any disconnection/reconnection or tampering with any part of the cabling between the Base unit and the IP camera or other POE device.
When Is LINKLOCK Required ?
Any externally mounted IP cameras potentially leave an exposed network connection which could be used by attackers to access the rest of the network - to disable the surveillance system for example. This may also expose the corporate network as this is often bridged to the surveillance network. LINKLOCK prevents such attacks by completely disconnecting power and data for that channel whenever it detects a cable disconnection or reconnection or even any tampering such as "tapping in" to the coax or network cables.
How Does LINKLOCK Work ?
LINKLOCK works by constantly monitoring the POE power connection and data transmissions. It can detect even subtle changes or interruptions in the data transmission characteristics which will trigger disconnection and alarm, whilst remaining extremely robust against false alarms. Once triggered and disconnected, the channel can be re-established via the reset pins after suitable action is taken to determine the cause of the alarm (i.e. a possible attacker).
HIGHWIRE Powerstar Base LINKLOCK Option
LINKLOCK™ is available as an option on Veracity's HIGHWIRE Powerstar Base 4 and Base 8 models of Ethernet and POE over coax adaptors. The Base unit accepts external power via a POE switch or a DC power supply. It sends power over the coax link to the Camera unit. The camera unit in turn provides POE (Power-overEthernet) to the IP camera. See HIGHWIRE Powerstar Base 4 or Base 8 datasheets for full information on HIGHWIRE.
LINKLOCK provides
protection to both the coaxial cable and the Ethernet cable connecting the IP camera to the HIGHWIRE Camera unit (sections A and B in the diagram opposite). LINKLOCK disconnection (blocking mode) is triggered when: The coaxial cable A is disconnected The Ethernet cable B is disconnected The coaxial cable A is disrupted The Ethernet cable B is disrupted Note that having a secure or encrypted link over the coax alone does not prevent intrusion as the Ethernet link to the camera would still be open and unsecured without LINKLOCK.
When blocking mode is enabled, all external equipment is immediately isolated from the internal LAN. The internally-located HIGHWIRE Powerstar Base 4 or 8 unit will : Remove POE Power from the coaxial cable (this disconnects and switches off the HIGHWIRE Camera unit and IP camera). Completely disable its coaxial network interface for the triggered channel only. Close the alarm relay contact and indicate the alarm channel with a red LED.

No Configuration
With no need to confi gure IP addresses, set DIP switches, or make awkward measurements and calculations, installing HIGHWIRE Powerstar is so straight forward, all you do is plug it in. In the most simple implementation, the BASE unit receives POE power from a standard POE switch or injector and transmits it down the coax. The CAMERA unit receives this power and forwards it on to the IP camera. No external power cabling is required, and all of the detection and setup occurs automatically
