The Cisco NCS 5000 Series is an extension to Cisco's routing platform portfolio, enabling service providers and MPLS-enabled data center architectures to offer elastic networks with improved business agility and simplified operations to deliver high-bandwidth mobile, video, and cloud services.

It can also operate as an extension shelf of Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers using network virtualization (nV) technology, consolidating multiple layers in the network and dramatically reducing operational costs.

Powered by industry leading routing operation system Cisco IOS^® XR Software, the system also offers rich functions such as third party application hosting, machine-to-machine interface, telemetry, and flexible package delivery.

Cisco NCS 540 Small Density Routers are temperature-hardened, conformal-coated platforms with advanced timing (Class C), security, and QoS features that revolutionize sub-100G routing by bringing the power of the IOS XR operating system to 3G/4G/5G cell sites (CSRs) and ease "IP" fication of Radio Access Network (RAN) and small-cell backhaul.

Built for deployment in any-gen RAN backhaul, sub-6 5G cell sites, Fixed-Wireless Access (FWA), small-cell backhaul, FTTx, utilities, mission-critical enterprise applications, and low-speed Ethernet rings, the three variants of NCS 540 Small Density Routers support a programmable SR (segment routing) fabric and EVPN (Ethernet Virtual Private Network) as overlay for a unified end-to-end architecture with cross-domain orchestration via the industry-leading IOS XR software bundled with best-in-class services.

Product overview

Easy to configure and install, the RV260 routers can be remotely deployed using Plug and Play (PnP), are supported by the Cisco FindIT network platform, and feature a new user interface.

These models have a dual-core processor that provides performance usually found only in more expensive solutions. A Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) WAN port provides flexible connectivity and investment protection. Like the other models in the portfolio, the RV260, 260P, and 260W include standard features such as a business-grade Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) firewall, VPN security (IP Security [IPsec], Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol [PPTP], and OpenVPN), content filtering, and device wizards to make an easy setup even easier.

The wired RV260 offers a high-performance user experience at an attractive cost point. The RV260P adds Power over Ethernet (PoE) to four of the eight ports. The RV260W adds 3x3 wireless 802.11ac. Like the RV160W but with better performance and more ports, this network-in-a-box offers fantastic wireless performance and range for the small business and teleworker network solution.
