Through its portfolio of Ethernet service cards, the Cisco ONS 15454 MSPP has enabled service providers and enterprises to effectively and efficiently expand their network capability from transporting only time-division multiplexing (TDM) services to delivering multiple services over a single, converged architecture and eliminating the need for multiple overlay infrastructures. With the introduction of the Cisco ONS 15454 CE-Series 10-Port Multirate Ethernet Card (CE-MR), the Cisco CE-Series card portfolio - which includes the 10/100 Mbps (CE-100) and the 1000 Mbps (CE-1000) cards on the Cisco ONS 15454 and 15310 platforms - gives service providers the ability to scale from 1.5-Mbps to 1-Gigabit Ethernet Private Line services. Additionally, the Cisco CE-MR card provides the service flexibility for customers to deploy multirate Ethernet services (10,100, 1000 Mbps) over a single card by supporting 10 Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP)-based multirate ports.

The ONS 15454 DS1-14 card provides 14 Telcordia-compliant, GR-499 DS-1 ports. Each port operates at 1.544 Mbps over a 100 ohm twisted-pair copper cable. The DS1-14 card can function as a working or protect card in 1:1 protection schemes and as a working card in 1:N protection schemes. Each DS1-14 port has DSX-level (digital signal cross-connect frame) outputs supporting distances up to 655 feet.

The Cisco ONS 15454 SONET 56-port DS-1/E1 Card provides 56 DS-1 interfaces operating at 1.544 Mbps received over 100-ohm nominal twisted-pair cable or 56 E1 interfaces operating at 2.048 Mbps over 120-ohm nominal twisted-pair cable. The DS-1 and E1 interfaces are used for terminating transport signals within a central office or customer premises.

This card supports manual-mode or auto-mode frame-format provisioning, simplifying the activation of services. The DS-1s support asynchronous and byte-synchronous options for the mapping to VT-1.5. The E1s supports asynchronous mapping to VC-12 SDH.

The ONS 15454 DS3-12E card provides 12 Telcordia-compliant ports per card. Each port operates at 44.736 Mbps over a single 75 ohm 728A or equivalent coaxial span. The DS3-12E card provides enhanced performance monitoring functions. The DS3-12E can detect several different errored logic bits within a DS-3 frame.

Each DS3-12E port features DSX-level outputs supporting distances up to 450 feet. With the proper backplane EIA, the card supports BNC or SMB connectors.
