Add reliable and high-speed back-up connectivity to any Meraki MX series router with an LTE solution from APC and Accelerated. Upon loss of the primary WAN connection, fail-over to cellular is seamless.
Consumer-grade USB modems provide only limited reliability, serviceability and control. Thus they are not considered to be a true business class solution for customers who's business depends on network availability.
Why WAN fail-over?
You wouldn't think of deploying a critical router or server without the added protection of a UPS, so why would you rely on a single wired internet connection? Consider these facts:
- 99.5% is the typical availability of a cable/DSL internet connection. That equates to over 4 hours of downtime a month!
- Adding a secondary wired connection can be expensive and may be susceptible to the same issues, such as a cable cut.
- Deploying 4G LTE is fast, easy for new or existing installations and affordable with data plans that may be tailored for almost any budget.
Dedicated router verses a USB modem? USB (stick) modems may be cheaper but a dedicate fail-over router offers the following advantages.
- Fail-over time: almost immediate verses minutes with a USB modem.
- Reliability of signal and bandwidth. Routers are POE ready allowing them to be mounted at optimum locations for signal strength. In addition they are CAT 6 (LTE Advanced) so they have the throughput to support enterprise applications.
- Security upgrades: are supported remotely. USB modems upgrades are not available via the Meraki Cloud Manager so they require costly on site support visits.
- Data Monitoring and Management: USB modems do not have alerts or data consumption control. Managing data usage in fail-over mode is an important consideration.
- Out-of-band management: Use secure SMS or a dedicated USB port to manage devices in the LAN even when the wired WAN is down.

Centralized Remote Management Accelerated View provides a centralized portal to monitor and remotely control routers. The powerful and intuitive interface allows for easy customization. Device status and alerts can be sent to designated email addresses.
